Peter A. Chacanias is an associate in the firm’s Commercial and Residential Real Estate Department, with a concentration in complex title disputes, general litigation, and all tidelands matters. In connection with tidelands, Peter has appeared before the Tidelands Resource Council repeatedly over the last several years, representing clients in the filing of successful applications for riparian grants, waterfront development permits, and CAFRA permits. He is also a practitioner in the firm’s Business Law and Litigation Department, assisting in the development of strategy, motion practice, and representing clients in complex commercial litigation of all types.
Prior to joining the firm, Peter was an associate for Brian E. Rumpf, P.C., where he worked as a public defender for more than ten municipalities in Ocean County, representing individuals in a variety of criminal and traffic-related matters, including Driving While Intoxicated. Peter also served as Board attorney for several municipal governing bodies in Ocean County, during which he advised them on zoning, municipal land use, and local government issues. He continues his practice as a criminal defense attorney at the municipal and county levels and continues to advise municipalities on zoning and land use.
Peter received his Juris Doctor from the Seton Hall University School of Law in 2014, where he was the recipient of both the Presidential and Riccio Scholarships. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University, magna cum laude, and during that time was a member of both the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Golden Key International Honour Society.
